Reading is mandatory in all areas, whether or not they are directly related to one's work. Years, decades, and centuries may pass, that the reading of books, documents or specialized articles is always recommended.

Interior design could not be an exception, not least because, in addition to some basic concepts, there are those related to trends, that should be as read and updated as possible.

Some (books) tell stories in the first person and explain how hundreds of houses have been decorated, while others focus on the work of iconic professionals in the area. All of them, however, have in common the ability to inspire the reader.

That is why we have put together the 6 books on interior design that you need to read. While some deal with more general concepts, others focus on details of colors, textures, and trends that you will certainly love to know.

1.  “Perspective" by Steven Gambrel

This book is authored by one of the best interior designers nowadays Steven Gambrel, so you can expect very professional content and, above all, excellence. One of its characteristics as a professional is the subtle use of color, which does not compromise the environment and harmony of each space, being this one of the main points focused on this book.

Steven Gambrel knows the history that is at the base of interior design and he relies on it to create his works of art, inspiring readers to do the same. It is undoubtedly a great starting point and one of the first books to read if interior design is an area that you are passionate about.

2.  "A Point of View" by Veere Grenney

"A Point of View" was written by Veere Grenney, a renowned English designer, that counts over 30 years of work. This book talks about how, and why, Grenney decorated his first home, so you can expect valuable tips on interior design and how to achieve the desired harmony in each room of the house. To illustrate his words, Grenney links the text with images of his work in English and American homes.

3. "May I Come In?" by Wendy Goodman

This book has the following subtitle: "Discovering the World in Other People's Houses”, something that makes you think that a home is, in fact, the mirror of the soul.

This, which is one of the books on interior design you won't want to miss, is reported on visits to more than 75 houses, the author's favorites. Here, she talks about the relationship that exists between the decoration of space (a house, in this case) and the passions of its owner.

4. "Homebody" by Joanna Gaines

"A Guide to Creating Spaces You Never Want to Leave," is the subtitle of a book that explains the magic formula for decorating a space you never want to leave. This book talks about the importance of interior design in the life of any house owner.

The author argues that the way a house is decorated reflects the personality of the owner, besides being able to tell the stories lived there. This book works as a guide that helps you understand your tastes, as well as each one’s priorities when it comes to decorating each room of a house.

5. "Inspired Design" by Jennifer Boles

This book is an inspiration in the sense that it speaks of, and also honors, the best interior designers in history (more precisely in the last 100 years). In this book, the author talks about how the work of these professionals has influenced everything that is being done in recent times (in this specific area).

"Inspired Design" is an authentic decoration course, both for those who work in the area and for those who are simply interested in it.

6.  "At Home" by Isabel López-Quesada
