Classic Blue: how to use (and abuse) the color of 2020

Classic Blue is the color of the year 2020 and there are several ways to apply it in interior design. These unfailing tips will make your home more colorful and harmonious.

The blue color is generally associated with an idea of tranquillity and harmony and this is one of the reasons why this tonality is so used in interior design. But the associations to this color go far beyond that.

When one thinks of the blue color, it is impossible not to associate it with water, the sky, and even the sea. Although this is considered a “cold” color, the serenity this tone brings to a space is remarkable, leading it to occupy a special place in decoration (especially in the interior design).

This color is so valued that it was highlighted by Pantone as the color of the year 2020— plus itself in its Classic Blue variation. The famous institution associates the color to the "sunset sky" and also refers to the "feeling of peace and tranquility" the color brings "to the human spirit, offering refuge".

Pantone goes further by stating that 2020 is a year "that requires trust and faith (...), expressed by PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a hue (...) that we can trust".

Now it’s time to trust our suggestions and learn more about how to use Classic Blue in interior design.

1. Decoration objects

Using Classic Blue in decorative objects is one of the biggest trends of 2020. The truth is that, in doing so, the investment is much lower and, in return, you receive an equally pleasant feeling in visual terms.

Therefore, you simply can’t fail in choosing the best objects for this purpose. Focus on the choice of a darker blue, namely the Classic Blue. Find it, for example, on pillows (for the sofa or the bed), on blankets, on linen or even on carpets.

2. Bet on textiles and fabrics

Speaking of carpets, nothing better than to combine the decoration of your space with components such as the linings of the sofa or the carpets in different materials (and in the shade of that Classic Blue).

One of the simplest options where you can use the color of the year 2020 is in bath towels, for example. The same applies to curtain fabric (in any room of the house) and any accessories you may have displayed.

3. Use (and abuse) various shades of blue

Monochromatic is one of the biggest trends of recent times. Using different shades of the same color, in the same room, is an asset for any corner of the house, because the environment ends up (much) more favored.

Imagine using various shades of Classic Blue in your living room or bedroom. You can start with a darker shade on the walls and go for lighter shades on elements such as the headboard or the sofa cushions.

4. Combine Classic Blue with other colors

When we talk about "other colors", we don't limit ourselves to those that complement this "Classic Blue". On the contrary, because the color of 2020 gains more life when combined with strong and contrasting colors which, at first sight, could never be combined…

Go further in decorating your space and combine Classic Blue with red, yellow mustard, purple and even orange. These are combinations that give a luxurious ambiance to any space you enter.

5. Classic Blue and White

The combination of blue whatever shade it is and white is timeless, and the idea gets even more prominent when we talk about Classic Blue, the color of 2020. As well as being visually pleasing, the combination presents immense possibilities, which are not limited to a single room.

Besides the living room and bedroom, two of the most common spaces when it comes to interior design, the kitchen can (and should) also benefit from this way of using Classic Blue. If you aren’t fully convinced, you don't need to take any “rebel” chances, and can always play it safe by keeping the walls white, for example, and the cabinets blue.

The same applies to bathrooms or any special corners you might have at home, where the decoration stands out uniquely. Using Classic Blue is much simpler when it comes to decoration and the colors you already have at home. The truth is that it is easier to achieve harmony and tranquility so desired in a home when the stronger color is this Classic Blue.

Start by implementing simpler ideas and bet on small color notes on accessories or decoration objects. Start by complementing what you already have at home and you will see that Classic Blue, the color of 2020, will stand out in any of your choices.
