What is the most suitable wallpaper for your home?
There is no magic formula for choosing the right wallpaper for your home, but you can follow these tips to make choosing easier.
These days, it's really hard to choose. There is a huge variety of wallpapers that
can be perfectly suited to a house wall or even more than one, but there are
several factors to consider when choosing.
It all depends on your taste, how the room is (already) decorated if you want to
apply the paper to one or more walls, and what type of material you’re looking
for. We say this because there are several types of wallpaper: plain, with
embossing, imitating velvet, with motifs, geometric figures, among many other
options.
There are several colors and textures of wallpaper that you can even buy online.
That's why it's important not to rush into buying before you have a clear notion of
the offer that exists.
If you need help knowing which wallpaper is best for your home, don't worry,
because you’re in the right place. We've prepared some tips that will help you
make the best decision.
If you want to apply wallpaper to a room that has been decorated for a long time,
you mustn’t compromise the work you have done so far. With this, we want to
explain that it’s important to preserve the environment you already have when
you enter a certain space.
Therefore, when choosing the right wallpaper, take into consideration the colors
and materials that you already have in the room where you put it. Keep the
chromatic scheme and try not to let the chosen paper get all the protagonism once again, the idea is that its placement complements, and improves, the
existing decoration (never compromising it).
2. Don’t ignore your taste
However appropriate the wallpaper you have just chosen may seem, you mustn’t
escape your taste. You must consider this way of thinking, otherwise, you will
want to rip out that wallpaper that seemed to be the best one faster than you
thought.
3. Each wall asks for a different kind of paper
It's true. You can't, and shouldn't, choose a wallpaper just because you like its color and/or texture. It is important that, once again, you consider the space where you want to put it.
There are several types of wallpaper. Some are plain, some have texture. Some
are raised and some aren’t. The latter, for example, are ideal to put in the living
room, but the same doesn’t happen in case we’re talking about a room (whether
it is a couple’s or not).
And the truth is that not all walls are the most suitable to put wallpaper on them.
In such cases, don’t despair, because you can always opt for other wall accessories to add more life to your space.
4. Attention to colors
If you want to apply a wallpaper at home, most likely you already have all the
decoration properly arranged, as well as all the walls painted. For this reason, we
never tire of saying that it is (very) important that you respect what already exists,
so as not to compromise the harmony of space.
If you have the walls of the room painted white, for example, perhaps it is not
appropriate to choose a wallpaper in a strong color such as red or green—don’t
you agree?
However, if you like darker colors, that is no obstacle. You can choose a
wallpaper with a dark background and white elements to respect and complement
the decoration and color palette that already exists.
5. The ideal wall
The ideal wall to put wallpaper on can vary according to one's opinion. Still,
wallpaper is something that results, above all, in walls that are behind the largest
pieces of furniture, such as the sofa in the living room or even the bed in the
bedroom.
Putting wallpaper in a baby's bedroom is also a great strategy—it quickly
complements the decoration you already have in the room (however simple it
may be).
Again, it is never too much to ask you to pay attention to your taste and not to
exaggerate in the placement of the wallpaper which will most likely not work if
applied to all the walls of a room.
Nowadays, it is easy to make the mistake of choosing a paper with too much
visual noise that, when placed, will damage (and a lot) the decoration that you
already have in any room.
Therefore, prefer simplicity to visual noise. Having too many decorative elements
in one room is not one of the best strategies to adopt when it comes to interior
design.
