How to choose a rug for your home: 5 essential tips

Don't know how to choose a carpet for your home? Don't worry, because you are not alone. Choose the ideal carpet for your house with our tips.

A carpet is one of those decorative objects that can never miss a house decoration and that easily adapts to any room. But the truth is that it's not easy to choose the ideal carpet, since several carpets could perfectly complement a room.

But in order not to rush your choice, the best thing to do is to take into consideration the tips we give you below to choose the perfect carpet for any room of the house.

1. The size of the room

Before choosing a carpet, you must know where you want to put it. In addition to taking into consideration the room where you are going to put it, it is essential that you also take into account its dimensions.

This is an important issue so that the balance of the decoration is never compromised. It’s undeniable that, most of the time, a carpet occupies the central place of any room a tip that can help you right away.

The truth is that including this object in the decoration of a house is a great asset, since it occupies empty spaces, giving them a different life. This is one of the best practices to adopt when decorating a small studio.

It’s also important to take into consideration the size of the room where you want to put the carpet so that it does not occupy too little or too much space. Therefore, choose a carpet that fits the decoration you already have, but that doesn’t take away all the protagonism of the room which is no tour goal here.

2. Decoration style

Don’t choose a carpet for your house without first having a clear notion of the decorative style you have at home which can, for example, resemble the Scandinavian or industrial style, so you must maintain visual coherence.

The truth is that, in addition to plain carpets, there are others full of colors, patterns and different textures. Therefore, you must keep harmonious elements such as colors, materials and furniture you already use.

When adding a carpet to a room in the house, it must complement the decoration that already exists. Therefore, this object should not take away the protagonism of the room, nor disturb the already existing decoration.

The carpet you choose shouldn’t harm the decoration that already exists. The safest choice can, for example, be a carpet of neutral color.

3. The colors

Besides respecting the decoration you already have at home, you must pay attention to the colors that the carpet you choose has since this decorative object can give different sensations to the room where it is placed.

The darker shades, for example, should only be used in large rooms. You should not choose a carpet in such colors if the room where you place it is small, since it will give the feeling that the space is smaller than it is.

The colored carpets, in turn, are a great complement for rooms where the neutral tones are the primary ones as it happens with monochrome spaces.

4. The material

As important as the colors of the carpets you want to put at home is the material in which they are made. There are several types you can choose from, the most common being wool, acrylic, polyester, leather or even synthetic fiber.

According to the material chosen, the durability varies, as well as the price. Synthetic materials are generally cheaper when compared to others such as wool, for example. They are also those that last less time.

On the other hand, these cheaper materials are the most indicated for allergic people, for instance, so they end up being a great investment.

5.  The size of the carpet

In addition to the size of the room where you will place the carpet, the dimensions of this one are also important. As such, you must take into account the space it will occupy before buying anything.

You can look for a carpet for an empty place or else prefer it to be (also) placed under furniture, such as sofas or dining tables in the living room.

Consider the size of the room and the carpet to include, as both will be important to your decision.

That being said, if you follow all the tips we give you, you won't find it difficult to choose the ideal carpet regardless of the room (or rooms) where you want to put carpets.
