What is the difference between natural wood furniture, solid wood or veneer?
Do you know the differences between natural wood, solid wood, and wood leaf
furniture? Learn how to distinguish these materials before your next purchase.
Nowadays, there is a lot of furniture to choose from. There are several stores that, online or not, sell furniture in different types of wood namely natural, solid, and leaf one.
The type of material used influences the price, besides ensuring extra durability.
These issues should weigh on your decision and help you understand each
piece's quality plus the respective costs.
The truth is that, no matter how many years go by, wood is still a timeless
material, often found in most decorations. The industrial style, for instance, is one
of those who uses wood pieces the most.
It is crucial to know the differences between natural wood, solid wood, and wood
leaf because it is very used.
Natural wood
Wood has been used for several years (even before the '80s). It is one of the
essential raw materials nowadays, given its resistance and fantastic durability.
Undoubtedly, these characteristics best describe natural wood, which is still
essential in furniture manufacturing. Usually, when compared to other wood
types, natural wood is much more resistant and durable, besides being very
unlikely to be damaged in any way.
Within natural wood, we can distinguish two types: hard and softwoods. The
former is darker and more expensive, unlike the latter, which is lighter and
cheaper.
Solid wood
Furniture built-in solid wood resembles, at first sight, the furniture in natural wood.
That is why it is essential to know both types' particularities since they are so
different.
Solid wood is the so-called "pure wood." It is the wood that is not treated, and
that is widely used, for example, in civil construction. Solid wood is the most
natural, heavy, and resistant type of wood. This is also why solid wood is widely
used to construct furniture, tables, chairs, and even cabinets.
Therefore, its natural characteristics are preserved, and materials such as
synthetic fibers are not used to treat and shape it.
Wood leaf
Wood leaf resembles precisely what you are thinking of: a leaf. It is a thin layer
that is cut directly from a tree.
Everything depends on the cut since there are different thicknesses according to
each leaf's purpose. However, these are usually no more than 1 millimeter thick.
Imagine a tree trunk to be laminated, and you will quickly understand what a wood
leaf is and why it has several thicknesses. Of course, this is the weakest type of
wood, although it is considered "pure" in its composition.
Wooden leaves are widely used in the back part of some furniture, for example,
which gives less weight to the furniture itself—which becomes more easily
movable.
How to choose the right wood type
Regardless of the type of wood you choose, it will almost certainly match the
decoration you have at home (or you are about to create). One of the best tips
you can follow is to combine this material with artificial plants that quickly adapt
to any room.
Whether you choose pieces of furniture in natural, solid, or wood leaf, we are sure
that now you can distinguish all types. Although it may be difficult to distinguish
them at first sight in some cases, there is nothing that the touch, the weight, and
even the price do not clarify.
Therefore, do not rush in your purchase and always consider the fact that you
already know how to distinguish the different types of wood used in furniture
manufacturing.
Of course, we cannot say that one is better than the other because that is not
true. Everything depends on the purpose you want to give to each piece of
furniture and the budget you have defined for its purchase.
There is wood leaf furniture that doesn't fit in one room, but that fits perfectly. It
all depends on your taste and what is the goal that each piece will fulfill.
Whether you choose natural wood, solid, or wood leaf furniture, you will certainly
first let your taste speak louder and there is nothing you can do better.
